Wisdom teeth are the last and final set of molars to emerge, typically between the ages of 14 and 30. Not everyone develops wisdom teeth, and for some, these teeth cause no issues. For others however, wisdom teeth can lead to complications that, left untreated, may cause tooth decay, pain, misalignment or gum disease. Limited space in the mouth can prevent wisdom teeth from emerging properly. Sometimes, they only partially erupt, leading to crowding, infection or cavities. Other times, wisdom teeth may grow at odd angles, causing damage to adjacent teeth. In more serious cases, wisdom teeth can become impacted and trapped under the gums, which could result in bacterial buildup and painful infections.
At Neighbourhood Dental, our experienced team can often spot potential problems with wisdom teeth early on and may recommend proactive removal before complications develop. This approach helps you avoid more complex treatments later on. Our dentists are here to help you every step of the way!
